LORAIN, Ohio — Just a few weeks ago, he was on death’s doorstep.
Now, the neglected and injured dog affectionately named “Herbie” is showing signs of major improvement: he’s walking on his own!

Herbie was found on the tree lawn of an abandoned house of West 11th Street in Lorain. He was severely underweight and had a badly fractured skull.
At first, his rescuers weren’t sure he would make it; but, each day his condition got a little better.
Veterinarians plan to fix Herbie’s injured head when he is strong enough to sustain the surgery.
The public’s response to Herbie’s story has been overwhelming.
Donations have been pouring into the Lorain Animal Clinic, and on Saturday, hundreds of people attended the “Walk for Herbie,” which raised awareness of the effort to pass House Bill 108, known as Nitro’s Law.
